Laura Hope Steckler is an American performing artist based in Scotland. Her performances evolve from the integration of eastern and western performance practices and the application of new technology with devised text and movement. She combines ritual, character and performative installation to weave stories from the interior of the body, embodying the archetypal. Her work is rooted in somatics, theatrical elements, Butoh, yoga and whirling. Laura engages the sense of drama and play present in all these disciplines to address the rich and substantive themes that characterise her work. She is also a Body-oriented Psychotherapist.
Laura was told by a doctor at age 28 that she was ‘over the hill’ because she has congenital fractures in her L5 vertebra. She is now 70 and proving them wrong!
